Green Bean Casserole, love it or hate it, it's usually at Thanksgiving.
1 can of cream of mushroom soup
½ cup of milk
About 1 tablespoon of soy sauce. (add however much you want)
4 cups of cooked green beans
About 1-1/2 cups of fried onions. You mix in about a cup and put the rest on top to give it a nice crust.
Optional - 8oz bacon, 4oz fresh parmesan cheese
Start by mixing all ingredients into a large bowl, leaving ½ cup of the fried onions to the side. After mixing thoroughly, pour ingredients into an 8x8 casserole pan.
Bake at 350 for about 20 minutes or until it looks good, then sprinkle the ½ cup of fried onions on top, bake for another 5 minutes and you’re done.
Super simple recipe that doesn’t take much time. However, since this dish usually comes around once a year on Thanksgiving, I like to add a few extra ingredients to make this casserole a little more memorable.
First, I like to add about 8oz of low sodium bacon. I prefer low sodium to keep the recipe from becoming overpowered with salt. But of course, you can add to taste. I like to start off by cooking the bacon and cutting into ¼ inch bits and adding this into the initial mix.
Second, I like to add fresh grated parmesan cheese when topping with the fried onions. As far as how much to add, that is up to you. Just make sure to add the casserole back into the oven to develop a nice golden crust.
